Michael Pollan is a botanist, a professor, the author of several books, and also happens to be Michael J. Fox's brother-in-law. I love his 7 word diet plan.
Eat food, mostly vegetables, not too much. Those 7 words are all you really need for a healthy, delicious diet that you can stick to for the rest of your life.
Eat food, real food, not highly processed food like products. Eat vegetables and fruits. You can include meat, fish or chicken for protein. And finally, don't eat to much. If you follow this simple plan, you do not need any kind of diet. Your diet is just whatever you eat on a regular basis. Keep things simple and make it easy on yourself.
Run away as fast as you can from any highly restrictive, fad diet. You can lose weight on any fad diet, because you will always be limiting some types of food, but, fad diets are not healthy, and they are not sustainable. When you get tired of limiting your diet to only specific foods, you will regain all the weight you lost and then some. Plus, you may have damaged your health in the process.
Yes, you can eat a piece of cake or a scoop of ice cream once in a while. Yes, you can enjoy a glass of wine or a mixed drink occasionally. Just don't over do it. It is not what you do once in a while that changes your health, it is what you do everyday, most of the time. Too much of anything can be bad for you. Don't stress over it. Live your life, enjoy your food. Make sensible choices. Choose foods with nutritional value instead of empty calories. Drink water instead of sugary drinks. It all comes down to common sense. That is the Smart Wellness Method in action.
